AIOU launches two research journals on language & literature

Islamabad: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on Tuesday launched two credited academic journals to promote intellectual and scholarly work in particular areas, relating to society’s overall socio-economic development.

The launching of the two journals, one on Pakistani Languages and Literature and other on creative writing in Urdu language took place at a seminar that was presided over by the renowned scholar Prof. Fateha Muhammad Malik. Those who addressed the seminar included eminent writers Iftikhar Arif and Khurshid Nadeem.

With these two journals, total number of journals has reached to 17, got published in a short span of time, about three years. The Journal on Pakistani languages was published by the University’s department of Pakistani Languages, while journal on Urdu with the name of ‘Sabaat’ was issued by the Department Urdu.

The speakers congratulated the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui and his team for doing outstanding work in the academic field. They hoped the University’s consistent effort in the field of research will help promoting creative thinking and good human values in the society. The extensive research work was aimed at developing research culture in the country, relevant to the society.

The journals are of international standard and their writers include senior researchers from various Universities. It advisory board includes eminent personalities from USA, India, Egypt, Afghanistan and Iran.

While launching the journal, Dr. Shahid Siddiqui said the AIOU fulfills its main responsibility of constructing knowledge and disseminating the same among the end-users through the conferences and the research journals. In recent years, twenty-eight national and international conferences were arranged to achieve the desired goal.

Dr. Shahid Siddiqui asserted that the society should be benefited from the research findings, being carried out in the educational institutions, he said adding it was his dream to develop the University as a hub of research-based activities.

A separate office of research, innovation and commercialisation (ORIC) has been set up in the University to maintain liaison with industrial sector to share latest research in the relevant fields. The office works as a bridge between the researchers and the end user for the application of latest knowledge (new innovation) in a particularly field.
