A total of 26,800 new passenger cars were registered in Lithuania in January through November 2017, up 25% from 21,500 in the same period last year, Autotyrimai said on December 1st, based on data from the state car registration company Regitra, cites LETA/BNS.

In November alone, new passenger car registrations soared by 51% year-on-year to 2,628 units.

"Re-exports are the key driver of the strong growth: as many as 741 of the new cars registered in November were removed from the register by the end of the month and at least 34 more will be deregistered shortly," the market research company said in a press release.

The number of new personal cars surged by 58% year-on-year to 2,424 and that of commercial vehicles was up by 2% to 204 units.

Fiat last month held onto its number-one spot in Lithuania's new car market with 766 new cars registered, leaving Volkswagen well behind in second place with 340 and Toyota in third with 245 registrations. Audi ranked first in the premium car segment with 68 registrations.
