January 22, 2018

A ship traveling from Colombia to Nova Scotia traveled to Bermuda to drop off a crew member after a 33-year-old Indian national suffered an electric shock onboard.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “RCC Bermuda received an urgent call from the ship management company of the Marshall Islands registered vessel ‘M/V ALGOMA VALUE’, an 804ft Bulk Carrier located 320nm north of Bermuda, reporting the need for medical evacuation of a 33-year-old Indian national who had suffered an electric shock while using a grinder onboard.

“The vessel, on-route from Colombia to Nova Scotia, had already sought medical advice from CIRM Roma [Centro Internazionale Radio Medico], who advised vessel to alter course for Bermuda.

“Logistics were put in place for patient transfer via the Pilot Boat St George early Sunday morning and onward transit to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. At 8:56am, Sunday 21st January, the injured crew member was successfully transferred ashore via pilot boat, as ‘M/V ALGOMA VALUE’ continued towards its next port of call in Nova Scotia.”

  1. Real Deal says:

We have to be pros at this by now and we should be recognized however the only one that gets recognition is the US coast guard.

I would ask these ships service our ports so we can lower shipping fee for us being so conveniently located and ready to respond in times of need like this.
