  • Irakli is launching a label this month called the Intergalactic Research Institute For Sound. It's a new project for Irakli, a Georgian-born, Berlin-based artist known as half of I/Y and a founder of the popular STAUB parties. The plan is to put out what he calls "dreamy, more abstract, 'intergalactic' music" for listening to at home instead of on the dance floor, while emphasizing visual art to go with the sounds. The label's first record is ?? / DE: Sounds From Georgia, a compilation EP with ambient material from Irakli and five other Georgian producers. Natalie Beridze, an artist also known as TBA who used to release on Thomas Brinkmann's Max Ernst imprint, Rezo Glonti and Zesknel, a resident at the Tbilisi club Bassiani, have contributed to the cause, as have MYI and Severiane, two newer names that we're told were found through "Myspace, SoundCloud and word-of-mouth." ?? / DE is due out on colored vinyl and digital formats on the 21st. That night, the label will host a release party at Berlin's Silent Green, a former crematorium hall, with support from the Georgian Department of Culture. (2017 has been declared the Germany-Georgia Friendship Year by both countries.) The Intergalactic Research Institute For Sound's next move will be a 10-inch reissue of Stanislav Tolkachev's 2008 track "Blue Mood." It'll be backed with a new cut from the Ukrainian techno producer, who'll also provide artwork. Another 10-inch will follow, with music and artwork courtesy of cult duo Air Liquide—their first release in more than ten years. Further details for both those records are still TBA. Listen to Glonti's ?? / DE track "Mentors."
