REC Research Sheds Light on Export Path to Oman

A long-time client of the U.S. Commercial Service (USCS) Boise, Aviation Specialties Unlimited (ASU) has served commercial, government, and defense customers in more than 70 countries and all seven continents with aviation night vision products and services. ASU knew it needed to be strategic with its resources to find new markets. When ASU expressed an interest in market research, USCS Boise introduced the company to the USCS National Rural Export Center (REC) RAISE research service in July 2022 and ASU chose to do a Matrix + 3 Country Report in September 2022 with the assistance of the U.S. Small Business Administration and the State of Idaho’s State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) grant funding. The National REC team in Fargo, North Dakota worked with ASU to develop the research parameters and conduct the analysis. The research included market analysis of the Helicopter Emergency Medical Services and Oil and Gas industries in Brazil, Bangladesh, and Oman.

A USCS Gold Key Service was simultaneously performed in Oman. The USCS Partner Post in Oman at the U.S. Embassy in Muscat provided in-depth analysis and feedback for sample companies that the Rural Export Center shared from its research. After that, the U.S. Embassy Muscat in Oman short-listed and arranged virtual introductory calls with four companies from more than 10 defense companies who fit the potential representative criteria. The U.S. Embassy also organized ASU’s visit to Oman providing background information on the market, travel, and visa information, and coordinated face-to-face Gold Key meetings in May 2023. ASU is now working with a partner in Oman on a promising tender due to the help of the Gold Key Service and RAISE Research.

ASU was grateful for the help it received in expanding into new markets in the Middle East. Chris Etcheverry, Director of Business Development Sales, Asia, stated,

“I wanted to express my sincere appreciation for the outstanding support provided by the US Commercial Service office throughout our search for representation in the Middle East, specifically Oman. Their deep market knowledge, valuable insights from the research report, extensive network, and unwavering commitment to our success have been instrumental in finding the perfect representative for our products and services. The team’s professionalism, responsiveness, and efficient handling of the process have truly exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend the US Commercial Service office to any company seeking assistance in the Middle East market.”

Due to the diligent efforts of the U.S. Embassy Muscat, U.S. Commercial Service Boise, and USCS Rural Export Center, Aviation Specialties Unlimited has asked for three more in-depth Country Reports with the hope of expanding further around the world.
