Oklahoma-Based Nomad Defense Inks Deal with German Manufacturer, Expands to European Market

Oklahoma defense company Nomad Defense selected Munich, Germany-based Defense Line to manufacture its mobile security barriers throughout Europe. The barriers are designed to maximize the protection of sensitive locations and events.

“We have long sought a collaborative endeavor with an innovative European company,” said Nomad President and Founder Erick Westfahl. “Defense Line brings innovation, world-class manufacturing and logistical capabilities to serve Europe. We firmly believe Oklahoman and Bavarian values align in providing innovation to timeless national security needs.”

Nomad’s steel barriers are non-ground penetrating, allowing for quick deployment on any terrain while providing weatherproof and anti-climb technology. In addition to expanded manufacturing capabilities, the two companies will collaborate to create an extended product line.

“We wanted a partner aligned with our values and collaborative nature to create future-focused solutions in the defense space,” said Defense Line Managing Director Stephan Maier. “Nomad’s cutting-edge technology and resources, along with Oklahoma’s supportive business environment and advanced defense sector, are precisely what we need to strengthen and innovate both individual companies and the market as a whole.”

The partnership was facilitated by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce’s Global Opportunities Oklahoma (GO Oklahoma), a program aimed at empowering rural companies to access the diverse markets of Asia, Europe, and the Canada-Mexico trade corridor.

“We face a changing paradigm in and around Eastern Europe regarding security and appetite for new technology,” said GO Oklahoma contractor Michael Carnuccio. “As we identify gaps in these markets, our local companies have vast opportunities to explore transatlantic partnerships that align with Oklahoma values and capabilities.”

Aerospace and Defense is Oklahoma’s second-largest industry, representing an economic impact of nearly $44 billion annually. The state is home to over 1,100 aerospace entities, including manufacturing, MRO, UAS, research and development, and military, which employ over 120,000 workers. Of those 1,100 entities, 18 are Fortune 500/100 companies.

“I am thrilled that the partnership between Nomad Defense and Defense Line is expanding Oklahoma’s aerospace and defense footprint on a global scale,” said Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell. “Oklahoma has a legacy of aerospace innovation and success dating back over a century, and it is because of strong partnerships like this one that aerospace has become the fastest-growing industry in the state. I look forward to seeing how this partnership strengthens both companies and creates new economic opportunities.”
